Great Give 2023

Great Give 2023

Dear New Haven Ballet Family and Friends,

Every year on the first Wednesday of May, the Greater New Haven community rediscovers how generous and caring our neighbors and friends are, as the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven raises millions of dollars to support local nonprofits. We at New Haven Ballet (NHB) are proud that we have been part of this historic effort. Over the years we have been humbled by the level of support, which has enabled us to offer not only our superb classical ballet training program but our numerous community performances and outreach programs, including DanceAir, which provides in- and after-school ballet instruction to elementary school children in the Greater New Haven area as well as scholarships for children; and Shared Ability, which pairs differently abled students with advanced ballet students in a program of mutual discovery and delight.

We’d like to share some of the programs your generosity supports.

This spring NHB is offering two extraordinary performances. On May 19 our free DanceAir student performance will celebrate our DanceAIR participants as they show off what they’ve learned in their ballet classes, joined by some of our intermediate and advanced students. On May 27, Coppélia comes to the Shubert Theatre. This classic ballet will bring to life a beloved tale by E. T. A. Hoffmann, with enchanting choreography, gorgeous sets and costumes, and some of ballet’s most popular music. The show will also feature the premier of Cavaliere Allegro accompanied by the Neighborhood Music Premier Quartet and Vivaldi Concerto accompanied by Music Haven’s Pomegranates Quartet. Our Shared Ability dancers will also perform.

NHB’s summer program offers students at all levels a wide range of classes in a variety of dance styles from a first-class faculty and guest artists. We are also proud to launch a one-week sleep-away ballet intensive at Choate Rosemary Hall for advanced students. And our Open Division classes offer recreational dancers a chance to channel their inner dancer.

All these programs are possible only because of you, our NHB family and friends, and the generosity you show us every May. We thank you in advance for your continued support as well as look forward to an exciting spring and summer. Any donation, no matter how small, helps us continue to bring you the joy of dance.

Great Give: 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4.

New Haven Ballet is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
