The purpose of the New Haven Ballet Company is to provide intermediate and advanced level students (levels 5-8) with enhanced training through exposure to celebrated guest choreographers, works and teachers, and to offer additional performing opportunities. In recent years, the New Haven Ballet Company has worked with professional teachers, choreographers and dancers from companies such as School of American Ballet, New York City Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Miami City Ballet, as well as performed highly acclaimed work, including Giselle, Le Corsaire, Paquita, Don Quixote, and Swan Lake. The Company’s eclectic repertoire includes classical ballet, neo-classical ballet, modern, contemporary, and other dance forms. Students audition in January and rehearse on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The Company performs at the school’s spring performance as well as many prestigious festivals, including the Branford Festival, Arts on the Edge, Dancin’ in the Streets, the Fair Haven Festival, and the International Festival of Arts and Ideas.
*A minimum ballet class attendance and an audition is required to participate.
On January 23, 2023, Artistic Director, Lisa Kim Sanborn, announced that forty-five veteran and new male and female dancers will comprise New Haven Ballet’s student company for Spring 2023. These dancers will perform, Coppélia, composed by Léo Delibes with choreography by Lisa Kim Sanborn after Marius Petipa. In addition, the Company will perform a new work set to String Quartet in G Minor, Op.74, No.3 ‘Rider’, composed by Joseph Haydn and played by the Neighborhood Music School Premier Quartet, under the direction of Jody Rowitsch, with choreography by Lisa Kim Sanborn. The dancers will also perform a work created in 2020, Concerto for Two Violins in A Minor, RV52, composed by Antonio Vivaldi and played by the Pomegranate String Quartet, under the direction of Yaira Matyakubova and Patrick Doane, with choreography by Lisa Kim Sanborn.
