Dear Friends,

We enjoyed a spectacular 2024, welcoming many new and visiting students. During a premiere two-week sleep-away ballet intensive, we trained advanced-level dancers from Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania. These dancers performed excerpts from Le Corsaire at the Paul Mellon Arts Center in Wallingford. This was followed by the opening of our newest satellite location in Hamden this fall.

We expanded our Open Division and introduced many recreational dancers to the joys of ballet.

This year’s Nutcracker was bigger and better than ever, thanks to new sets, choreography, guest artists, and costumes. We also introduced a new audience of young students throughout Greater New Haven to the magic of live theater with a Children’s Matinee.

Thanks to donor and partner support, over 1,000 children from throughout Greater New Haven attended The Nutcracker Children’s Matinee at the Shubert Theatre. For many, it was their first time seeing a live performance in a theater.

Looking forward to 2025, the Ballet announced auditions for Adventures in Wonderland and the New Haven Ballet Company. We cannot wait to return to the studios on January 6, 2025, to plan our upcoming Shared Ability and DanceAIR workshops.

We thank our families, students, staff, Board, faculty, friends, and partners for supporting New Haven Ballet. We invite you to join us as we continue to bring superior programming and performances to the community.

We hope you will celebrate our incredible arts education and performances. When considering end-of-year gifts, please remember New Haven Ballet. Click Here to Donate.

On behalf of the New Haven Ballet, we wish you all the Happiest of New Year’s and look forward to seeing you soon.

Yours sincerely,

All of Us at New Haven Ballet

The Great Give is May 3-4, 2023. This is an online giving event that supports local non-profit organizations including New Haven Ballet. This year we are offering a raffle to enrolled students in Levels 2-8 and Open Division students. For donations of $50 or more friends and families may designate a student to be entered into the raffle. The lesson will be for 1-hour. Younger students who are selected in the raffle may select a hair ornament made especially for Coppelia or a New Haven Ballet tee. No substitutions.

Early Giving is Open. Donations made before the Great Give officially opens will count towards the total but not for special prizes awarded during the two-day event.

Thank you for your support!

It’s April, and April showers bring not only May flowers but May dances and May fundraisers. The Great Give—the annual fundraiser sponsored by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven that brings needed funds and new friends to so many worthy community nonprofits—will launch on Wednesday, May 4, at 8:00 a.m., and run to Thursday, May 5, at 8:00 p.m. New Haven Ballet is thrilled to be among the participants, for the money so generously donated by family and friends keeps our dancers dancing, through good times and hard ones (and these past two years have been hard), and enables us to bring the joy of dance to the community at large through our outreach programs Shared Ability, for differently abled students, and DanceAir, for elementary school students in the Greater New Haven area. This May we are particularly excited because we shall once more put on our spring show at the Shubert Theater, where dancers age 5 and up will perform for a live audience. Our program will feature the classical ballet Don Quixote and a new piece created for our students by former New York City Ballet dancer Tom Gold.

The Great Give is one of the reasons that NHB can put on these performances and outreach programs; they are why we can offer the finest classical ballet training and perform with world-class artists. And the Great Give is you, our generous New Haven Ballet friends and family, whose donations do so much to keep our school going and our students dancing. This year, on May 4–5, we ask that you consider a donation—of any amount—to NHB. And we hope to see you at the Shubert in a few weeks in a joyous May celebration.

Great Give: 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5.

New Haven Ballet is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

OUR MISSION

To provide the greater New Haven Community with exceptional classical ballet training, performances, and outreach programs, that nurture appreciation of ballet and foster the joy of dance.

On October 31, 2020, NHB’s Board of Directors adopted the following Diversity and Inclusion Statement:

New Haven Ballet celebrates those who aspire to excellence in classical ballet. A culture of creativity is the core of our work and diversity promotes innovation. The arts can provide powerful life-changing experiences that prepare students and impact audiences to lead more successful, meaningful and culturally rich lives. The arts can also prove to be an important platform for social change. At New Haven Ballet we are passionate about creating an inclusive dance environment and performances that promote and value diversity and inclusion. We will continue to strive to increase diversity in age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity, and perspective, which will improve and strengthen our work.
