Dec. 1 Giving Tuesday

The wait is finally over – #GivingTuesday is here!

Community members like you are the reason we’re so excited! If you’re as passionate as we are about making classical ballet accessible to Greater New Haven, we hope you’ll consider supporting New Haven Ballet today.

In case you’re wondering about the importance of your gift, here’s how New Haven Ballet will make the MOST of your generous contribution:

  • Studio Classes: We know the importance of maintaining access to the studio, especially during these challenging times. Regrettably, tuition does not cover increased and fixed expenses, nor small class size restrictions due to COVID
  • Performances: Even without a theater, we are hard at work partnering with talented musicians and creating new choreography to accommodate small groups of dancers who will present a Winter Showcase series, to be shared virtually with the community at no cost
  • Virtual classes: We understand that home spaces are not the same as studio space. Our virtual classes are designed to cater to students who are working at home
  • Community programs: We know that everyone in the community benefits from high quality arts programming and look forward to continuing Shared Ability, DanceAIR and other community programming

You know the scope of our work stretches beyond providing the finest classical ballet instruction and performances. And, it’s through the generous support of community members like you that we are able to provide so much access to the magic of ballet to so many.

Thank you for being part of our community and for giving so generously!

NYCB Soloist Joins Faculty

New Haven Ballet Artistic Director Lisa Sanborn is thrilled to announce New York City Ballet Soloist Sara Adams will join the faculty beginning September 2019.

Ms. Sanborn notes, “New Haven Ballet is proud to continue to set the bar in offering state of the art faculty and training to our students. We have been fortunate to offer incredible teaching during the academic year and access to notable guest master teachers as part of our summer intensive programming. However, this is the first time a ballerina currently performing with New York City Ballet will work with students weekly throughout the year. An incredible opportunity, I am excited for students to enhance their artistic development, while improving their technical skills by working with a dancer of Ms. Adams’ caliber and experience.”

Lucy Weady to Retire

September 10, 2018

Dear New Haven Ballet Friends and Families,

I write with a bittersweet staffing announcement. Lucy Weady, NHB’s extraordinary Business Manager, will be retiring this fall. I note the news is bittersweet because while I am thrilled for Lucy, I feel profound sadness at the prospect of losing her from NHB’s family.

To assure a smooth transition we have engaged a new Business Manager, Alan Pensky, for the same days as Lucy (Tuesdays and Thursdays). Alan comes to us with tremendous experience and wonderful recommendations; we recognize how fortunate we are to have him join us.Please note that Lucy will be working with Alan to facilitate his transition.

I know how much you, as I, value and respect Lucy, and invite you to thank and wish her well when stopping by the office. In the meantime, while we all thank Lucy Weady for the generous time she gave to all of us at NHB, please join me in welcoming Alan Pensky as he comes into our close school community.

Yours sincerely,

Lisa Sanborn

Artistic Director
