Returning for our first live performances since 2019, New Haven Ballet will perform The Nutcracker at the Shubert Theatre New Haven December 17-19. Audiences will see a slightly older group of dancers on stage, as COVID protocols only allowed those 12-years and older to perform. Audiences will also be treated to two short films at the beginning of Acts 1 and Acts 2, which will feature younger dancers. We look forward to welcoming a live audience to the Shubert next week. American Ballet Theatre soloist Luciana Paris will star along side former Texas Ballet Theatre principal dancer Simon Wexler in New Haven Ballet’s The Nutcracker. The production will feature New Haven Ballet students performing Artistic Director Lisa Kim Sanborn’s new choreography, and include two short films highlighting younger dancers. New Haven Ballet is thrilled to return to the Shubert Theatre New Haven December 17-19, 2021. These will be the first live performances by New Haven Ballet since 2019. Run time: 1 hour 40 minutes, plus intermission. Click Here to Purchase Tickets.

New Haven Ballet’s fundraiser, the Annual Appeal, has begun. Your tax deductible donation in any amount helps us continue to offer our amazing programs.

New Haven Ballet is interested in sharing ballet with the broadest possible audience. We invite the community to learn and engage in dance through our community programs. Despite the challenges we face during the pandemic, New Haven Ballet is working harder than ever to adapt and offer our incredible teachers, staff, ZOOM and studio classes, and performances through our community programming.

Shared Ability offers dance workshops to differently abled artists. Dance is used as a tool to build social and cognitive abilities. Participating artists, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other challenges,  dance, meet, interact, and share their unique experiences with one another in a safe and supportive environment.

Recreational classes are offered seven days a week on a drop-in basis to students 12+ years — for beginners through advanced level dancers — in our Open Division.

DanceAIR offers dance classes, performances, and scholarships to children who would not otherwise have access or the opportunity to study ballet. We partner with New Haven Public Schools to offer year round training and support for those with financial need and a strong interest in ballet.

OUR MISSION

To provide the greater New Haven Community with exceptional classical ballet training, performances, and outreach programs, that nurture appreciation of ballet and foster the joy of dance.

On October 31, 2020, NHB’s Board of Directors adopted the following Diversity and Inclusion Statement:

New Haven Ballet celebrates those who aspire to excellence in classical ballet. A culture of creativity is the core of our work and diversity promotes innovation. The arts can provide powerful life-changing experiences that prepare students and impact audiences to lead more successful, meaningful and culturally rich lives. The arts can also prove to be an important platform for social change. At New Haven Ballet we are passionate about creating an inclusive dance environment and performances that promote and value diversity and inclusion. We will continue to strive to increase diversity in age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity, and perspective, which will improve and strengthen our work.
