Dear Friends and Families,

With great enthusiasm, I thank you for being part of the New Haven Ballet community. The Ballet is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides excellent dance training by a fantastic faculty, professional-quality performances, and incredible outreach opportunities, all aimed at nurturing the love of dance throughout Greater New Haven.

This year, we are enlisting the help of some wonderful volunteers to strengthen the ties within our community and assist with our Annual Appeal fundraising efforts. We hope you will speak with some of our volunteers to learn how New Haven Ballet impacts the various members of the community. We will be letting you know more soon.

Your inclusion in our family is invaluable. Your support through our fundraising efforts is vital; it’s the lifeblood of our organization. We can only provide exceptional programs with the funding we receive through donations because tuition and ticket sales do not cover our expenses.

Please help us spread the joy of dance throughout the community with our Annual Appeal through November 15th. For your convenience, New Haven Ballet now accepts payment through Venmo

I am deeply grateful for your time, consideration, and, most importantly, your support. Because of your donations, we can continue to bring the joy of dance to Greater New Haven.

Yours sincerely,

Lisa Kim Sanborn, Artistic Director

Dear New Haven Ballet Family and Friends,

Every year on the first Wednesday of May, the Greater New Haven community rediscovers how generous and caring our neighbors and friends are, as the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven raises millions of dollars to support local nonprofits. We at New Haven Ballet (NHB) are proud that we have been part of this historic effort. Over the years we have been humbled by the level of support, which has enabled us to offer not only our superb classical ballet training program but our numerous community performances and outreach programs, including DanceAir, which provides in- and after-school ballet instruction to elementary school children in the Greater New Haven area as well as scholarships for children; and Shared Ability, which pairs differently abled students with advanced ballet students in a program of mutual discovery and delight.

We’d like to share some of the programs your generosity supports.

This spring NHB is offering two extraordinary performances. On May 19 our free DanceAir student performance will celebrate our DanceAIR participants as they show off what they’ve learned in their ballet classes, joined by some of our intermediate and advanced students. On May 27, Coppélia comes to the Shubert Theatre. This classic ballet will bring to life a beloved tale by E. T. A. Hoffmann, with enchanting choreography, gorgeous sets and costumes, and some of ballet’s most popular music. The show will also feature the premier of Cavaliere Allegro accompanied by the Neighborhood Music Premier Quartet and Vivaldi Concerto accompanied by Music Haven’s Pomegranates Quartet. Our Shared Ability dancers will also perform.

NHB’s summer program offers students at all levels a wide range of classes in a variety of dance styles from a first-class faculty and guest artists. We are also proud to launch a one-week sleep-away ballet intensive at Choate Rosemary Hall for advanced students. And our Open Division classes offer recreational dancers a chance to channel their inner dancer.

All these programs are possible only because of you, our NHB family and friends, and the generosity you show us every May. We thank you in advance for your continued support as well as look forward to an exciting spring and summer. Any donation, no matter how small, helps us continue to bring you the joy of dance.

Great Give: 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 3, to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4.

New Haven Ballet is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization and all donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.

At New Haven Ballet we are passionate about creating an inclusive dance environment and performances that promote and value diversity and inclusion. We will continue to strive to increase diversity in age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, ethnicity, and perspective, which will improve and strengthen our work.

Yours sincerely,

The Faculty, Staff and Students at New Haven Ballet

We raised $6,650 from 65 donors

Thanks to your generosity, every dollar donated will go towards:

Supplies: Our sanitization and labor costs to clean equipment and studios are expensive

Performances: Our costumes need updating and we would love to look into purchasing a new backdrop for the Land of Sweets in our Nutcracker

Scholarships: New Haven Ballet offers partial and full scholarships to families who need financial assistance

Community Programs: We will continue to offer Shared Ability, DanceAIR and Open Division, all of which provide amazing dance training to myriad members of the Greater New Haven region

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Small but mighty!

New Haven Ballet is a small community based nonprofit ballet school. We do a lot with very little. That is part of what makes us special.

Ticket sales and tuition do not cover our expenses. Your generosity motivates us to work hard to produce performances and programs, bring the best teachers, offer the best classes and upgrade our facilities. As you will see tonight, when we once again showcase The Nutcracker, Act 1 (Sunday Cast), we also curate amazing films of our performances.

We are constantly striving to improve.

Please help us continue this work so that we may continue to provide community programs, like Shared Ability and DanceAIR, offer the highest caliber training, and superb performances.

New Haven Ballet is premiering a video performance of Act 1 from The Nutcracker to showcase our work during a “power hour” of giving to raise funds in support of the school.

The video will only be live for 1-hour, viewable from 8:00-9:00 p.m. on May 4

Click on the link below and consider donating as your support makes it possible for NEW HAVEN BALLET to present THE NUTCRACKER. This Live performance of New Haven Ballet’s The Nutcracker was filmed December 18, 2021 at The Shubert Theatre New Haven, with an introductory video performance filmed on November 20, 2021 at Danspace Studio, 70 Audubon Street, New Haven, Connecticut.

New Haven Ballet is participating in the Great Give, an online giving event to support local nonprofits. New Haven Ballet is a registered nonprofit organization, under the section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and therefore all charitable donations are deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

The Bank of America Charitable Foundation is providing a matching pool of $10,000 to inspire giving to visual and performing arts organizations. All donations made to eligible organizations via The Great Give 2022 during the 8:00-9:00 p.m. hour on May 4 will receive a prorated portion of the match pool based on the number of unique donors, in addition to the prorated share of the Community Foundations’ matching pools.

It’s April, and April showers bring not only May flowers but May dances and May fundraisers. The Great Give—the annual fundraiser sponsored by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven that brings needed funds and new friends to so many worthy community nonprofits—will launch on Wednesday, May 4, at 8:00 a.m., and run to Thursday, May 5, at 8:00 p.m. New Haven Ballet is thrilled to be among the participants, for the money so generously donated by family and friends keeps our dancers dancing, through good times and hard ones (and these past two years have been hard), and enables us to bring the joy of dance to the community at large through our outreach programs Shared Ability, for differently abled students, and DanceAir, for elementary school students in the Greater New Haven area. This May we are particularly excited because we shall once more put on our spring show at the Shubert Theater, where dancers age 5 and up will perform for a live audience. Our program will feature the classical ballet Don Quixote and a new piece created for our students by former New York City Ballet dancer Tom Gold.

The Great Give is one of the reasons that NHB can put on these performances and outreach programs; they are why we can offer the finest classical ballet training and perform with world-class artists. And the Great Give is you, our generous New Haven Ballet friends and family, whose donations do so much to keep our school going and our students dancing. This year, on May 4–5, we ask that you consider a donation—of any amount—to NHB. And we hope to see you at the Shubert in a few weeks in a joyous May celebration.

Great Give: 8:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 5.
