New Haven Ballet announces auditions for The Nutcracker are September 21-22, 2024, at 70 Audubon Street, New Haven, Connecticut. Dancers enrolled in Creative Ballet I, Creative Ballet II, Pre-Ballet, Primary, and Levels 1-8 at New Haven Ballet are encouraged to audition. Everyone who auditions gets a part and an opportunity to perform in one or more performances with New York City Ballet’s Sara Adams and Harrison Coll December 13-15 at the Shubert Theatre New Haven. New Haven Ballet wishes to congratulate the cast and crew of The Nutcracker! We are so proud of the over 150 dancers, guest artists, and singers who performed at the Shubert Theatre New Haven last weekend; it was a spectacular show. We wish to extend a special thank you to our guest artists, Sara Adams and Harrison Coll, courtesy of New York City Ballet, Alejandro Ulloa, and Michael Requena, in addition to the Shubert, our faculty and staff, our volunteers, and everyone who worked so hard to make our performances incredible. We wish you a fantastic holiday season and winter break. New Haven Ballet looks forward to seeing everyone back in the studio soon!

Kick off the holiday season with New Haven Ballet when they return to the Shubert Theatre to perform The Nutcracker, a favorite holiday tradition.

A treat for the whole family starring New York City Ballet’s Sarah Adams and Harrison Coll as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Cavalier, who are joined by many bright young dancers from New Haven Ballet’s School and guest artists Michael Requena and Alejandro Ulloa, rounding out the talented cast.

The production features larger-than-life sets with a Christmas Tree that grows to colossal heights, a snowstorm, exquisite costumes, a new pas de deux, and the timeless score by Tchaikovsky that will fill the rafters when local singers lend their voices to the Waltz of the Snowflakes. New Haven Ballet’s Nutcracker allows audiences to enjoy New York City Ballet stars at modest ticket prices, the convenience of the Shubert’s location, roomier seats, an upgraded sound system, and a phenomenal show!

The Shubert Theatre is located at 247 College Street in the heart of New Haven’s popular downtown restaurant and shopping district. Tickets start at $29 and may be purchased at Shubert.com or the Shubert Box Office at (203) 562-5666.

Friday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m.

Saturday, December 16 at 1:00 p.m.

Saturday, December 16 at 5:00 p.m.

Sunday, December 17 at 1:00 p.m.

The story follows young Clara as she enjoys her family’s festive party, where her Uncle Drosselmeyer entertains guests with magic and dancing dolls and gives her a real nutcracker. After falling asleep and dreaming of her magical evening, Clara awakens to a daring battle between a fierce Mouse King and brave soldiers led by a heroic Nutcracker Prince, who resembles her uncle’s charming nephew. The Prince joins her in her adventures in the Land of Snow and the Land of Sweets, where they meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and her handsome Cavalier. This magical show will have you tapping your feet and humming familiar tunes throughout the performance.

Artistic Director Lisa Kim Sanborn has announced that New Haven Ballet will welcome New York City Ballet corps de ballet dancer Savannah Durham on June 13. Ms. Durham will teach a master technique class to Level 5-8 students.

About Ms. Durham

Savannah Durham is a member of New York City Ballet’s corps de ballet. She was born in Bermuda Run, North Carolina, and began ballet, tap, and jazz lessons locally at the age of 6. She received additional training at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Boston Ballet, and attended summer courses at School of American Ballet, the official school of New York City Ballet, in 2012, 2013, and 2014 before entering SAB as a full-time student for the 2016 winter term. Ms. Durham became an apprentice with NYCB in August 2019, and as an apprentice, she originated a corps de ballet role in Lauren Lovette’s The Shaded Line. In August 2021, she joined the Company as a member of the corps de ballet.

Ms. Durham’s honors include the Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award and the Mae L. Wien Award for Outstanding Promise in 2019.

Artistic Director, Lisa Kim Sanborn, announces that New York City Ballet’s Harrison Coll will perform as the Cavalier in New Haven Ballet’s 2022 production of The Nutcracker at the Shubert Theatre New Haven on December 16-18, 2022. Mr. Coll will join NYCB’s Sara Adams, who will perform as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Harrison Coll Bio

Harrison Coll joined New York City Ballet as a dancer in 2012 and was promoted to Soloist in 2018. He has danced numerous featured roles with the company, performing ballets by choreographers such as: Jerome Robbins, Justin Peck, and George Balanchine. Mr. Coll worked as a creative collaborator for Justin Peck’s 2018 revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, and performed with cast for the Tony Awards that year. He is featured as a Jet in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story and plays one of the “fancy free” sailors in Bradley Cooper’s upcoming film “Maestro”.

New Haven Ballet is pleased to announce that New York City Ballet soloist, Sara Adams, will perform as the Sugar Plum Fairy in New Haven Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker at the Shubert Theatre New Haven on December 16-18, 2022. New Haven Ballet Artistic Director, Lisa Kim Sanborn, states, “We are thrilled to have Sara perform with us. She knows many of our students having been a member of New Haven Ballet’s faculty a few years ago. She is an absolutely stunning dancer and I cannot wait for our audiences to see her perform.”

Sara Adams Bio

Sara Adams was born in Dennis, Massachusetts, and began her dance training at the age of six at the Mid-Cape Ballet Academy.

She later studied at the Boston Ballet School, before taking a summer course at the School of American Ballet, the official school of New York City Ballet, during the summer of 2003.

She enrolled as a full-time student at SAB from 2003 to 2008. She became an apprentice with NYCB in June 2008 and became a member of the corps de ballet in September 2009. In February 2017, Ms. Adams was promoted to soloist.

Honors

Ms. Adams was a recipient of the Mae L. Wien Award for Outstanding Promise in 2007.
