PROGRAMS & TUITION – Student Division

Student Division (Ages 8-19)

New Haven Ballet offers dancers the highest caliber of classical ballet training in the region, including pointe and repertory. Training is enriched by a diverse range of workshops and classes — from classical, neo-classical, contemporary, and lyrical, to choreography, partnering, conditioning, nutrition, injury prevention, and Pilates.<br /> New students are required to take a placement class to register.

Levels 1–2: Building the Foundation (Ages 8–9+)

The journey begins here. Dancers begin formalized ballet training through a continuation of the language of ballet introduced in the Children’s Division, focusing on proper body alignment, flexibility, and musicality. Students develop strength, discipline, and a strong understanding of classical vocabulary while experiencing the joy of movement in a supportive, encouraging environment.

In Level 2, dancers take a written exam in addition to completing their in-class curriculum to matriculate to Level 3.

Levels 3–4: Expanding Skills & Expression (Ages 10–11+)

Students solidify foundational technique and begin to explore artistry in greater depth. Training includes more complex steps, the introduction of épaulement, and beginning pointe work. Emphasis is placed on combining head, arm, and leg movements seamlessly while deepening musicality, spatial awareness, and stage presence.

In Level 3, dancers take a written exam in addition to completing their in-class curriculum to matriculate to Level 4.

Levels 5–6: Strength, Precision & Artistry (Ages 12+)

Dancers refine technique through advanced turns, jumps, and combinations. Pointe work expands, and more complex arm and body positions are introduced. Students develop the physical strength, precision, and expressive range needed for classical performance while continuing to build confidence and personal artistry.

Levels 7–8: Mastery & Performance (Ages 13–14+)

Advanced dancers polish technique and cultivate individual artistry at the highest level. Training emphasizes stamina, complex choreography, advanced pointe work, and refined musicality. Opportunities for partnering — by invitation — allow dancers to fully immerse themselves in the demands of pre-professional performance, preparing them for the next stage in their dance journey.
