On May 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. New Haven Ballet school students will return to the Shubert Theatre New Haven to perform two ballets: Don Quixote and Symphonic Nonsense. Proceeds will support school programming, financial aid scholarships, and outreach.
NYC Ballet dancer, Mary Elizabeth Sell, will present ballet technique classes to Levels 5 through 8 on Monday, March 7, at New Haven Ballet.
Mary Elizabeth Sell was born in Wilton, Connecticut, and began her dance training at the age of five. Ms. Sell entered the School of American Ballet (SAB), the official school of New York City Ballet, at the age of 10.
While a student at SAB, Ms. Sell performed with the Company in Coppélia, Scherzo alla Russe, and Double Feature. Ms. Sell originated a corps role in Christopher d’Amboise’s Tribute as part of the SAB 2005 Annual Workshop.
In December 2005, Ms. Sell became an apprentice with NYCB, and in September 2006 she joined the Company as a member of the corps de ballet.
New Haven Ballet School presents two ballets: the classical, Don Quixote, with music by Ludwig Minkus and Lisa Kim Sanborn’s choreography inspired by Marius Petipa and Alexander Gorsky; and, the neoclassical, Symphonic Nonsense, with music by Leroy Anderson and choreography by Tom Gold. The performance will be held at the Shubert Theatre New Haven on Saturday, May 28, at 1:00 p.m. Tickets cost $37-$57.
